i was going to give it like 4.5 but the epilogue made up for it big time. the build up to the huge issue kinda diluted the issue itself but alex nilsen makes up for it all. a mix of religious guilt and borderline OCD makes him so modest, mysterious, and perfectly frustrating. he is everything and more. poppy is a part of me just like every other emily henry female lead. henry is easily the queen of love confessions and quirky dialogue and god i love her and the characters she creates

the definition of style AND substance. i started the book thinking it was another romcom (WHICH I LOVE) and was blown away at the emotional topics discussed. it was raw and a real and still so funny and romantic. and above all it was relatable. i found myself in each character. i cried and laughed and squealed. !!!there’s smut!!!! the ending was just the tiniest bit rushed and there’s the occasional millennial humour but nothing you can’t look past, gus and january made all of it worth it. with quotes like “hemingway circle jerk fan fiction” and “every time she fell in love… joy seemed to overflow” and “when i watch you sleep i feel overwhelmed you exist” HOW COULD YOU NOT BE HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE W THE CHARACTERS. people say it’s enemies to lovers but if anything it’s more miscommunication and unrequited love diet enemies to lovers

the language could get a little repetitive and cringe on occasion but easily overlooked. overall the very definition of a romcom novel. i’m a big fan of the academic setting because i’ve been a student for so long and for so many more years so it was nice to read and relate to some of the jokes about academia and science and being a woman in stem.
