This is a book I've wanted to read for quite some time. Admittedly, it is one that I felt more comfortable reading clandestinely, telling only some people about it. However, I tried to look past the stigma that surrounds the occult and the Satanic religion.
LaVeyan Satanism is not the worship of the devil. In essence, it is ritualistic atheism. For this reason I found myself agreeing with many of the points LaVey makes about human nature and the need for humans to embrace our urges and pleasures if we are to live the most satisfying life possible. Satanists frown heavily upon the harming of children and committing acts that are detrimental to the self and to others, contrary to popular belief.
Having the viewpoint that is outside the Christian influence, I was not afraid of "demons" or "satan" for that matter while reading. Again, I was in general agreement until I reached the section on magic and rituals. I see the potential need for humans to conduct rituals for personal fulfillment, but as an atheist-like religion, I don't quite understand the belief in magic. That being said, I enjoyed this bible much more than the one I grew up with. The imagery (especially the blasphemous kind) was quite moving and inspiring. While I don't think I'll be joining the Church of Satan anytime soon, I recommend at least a glance at this work.
