The World According to Garp by John Irving
1.0
Cider House Rules was good, Owen Meany was good, so I expected better of Garp. I started out hopeful, and even enjoyed much of it. But by the end, I was completely tired of it. I was grateful when it was over. I found the plot self-indulgent and not super exciting. The writing is pretty bland (I think this is true of other Irving books, but the plot made up for it in those cases).
There were some interesting points about feminism, sex, etc, etc, but nothing that struck me down, and it just went on so. My future recommendation will be: read Cider House Rules, appreciate it's social commentary, then leave John Irving alone!
