1. For a while I wasn’t understanding how these 2 time lines/POV were essentially going to connect (even though it is QUITE CLEAR how these 2 women are connected) I just wasn’t sure what the story was going to be for the one in the future. And to be honest, I wasn’t sure what the plot was for about half of the book. But surely, as we neared the end of the book, Eliana's plot line became more clear with a goal and things that needed to be done.

2. For the majority of the book I liked Rielle’s plot line much more than Eliana’s. It becomes clear which of these girls is going to be the Sun Queen and the Blood Queen, but HOW each of these girls were going to show who was who was really interesting and how they were thinking about how they were one of them in particular I really enjoyed, especially in Rielle's case. Her story line was more straightforward with clear objectives and it began to show the events that lead up to prologue. Eliana's, on the other hand, I felt like had no clear objective and it just felt like a bunch of meandering and moving from place to place without any explanation (even though there ARE reasons for them moving, but it wasn't sufficient enough for me).

3. Each of the villains in both timelines were just SO CORNY & their LINES had me rolling my eyes

Overall, this was pretty good and I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy!
4.5 but I rounded up to 5!

I wouldn’t say that the plot was “PREDICTABLE” but there were things that I guessed at that were “shockers” & “plot twists” but I still liked them & it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I was excited to see HOW they were going to be revealed & explained, cause a lot of them are off handed comments that the author makes throughout the book that, if you remember them, they make sense later on in the story and they all tie in. But the last couple of pages were CRAZY and I didn't see them coming at all.

This book talks a lot about religion, those who consider themselves to be "believers" and those who are seen are "heretics" and I found it to be very interesting that discussions that Malachiasz and Nadya had with one another about it.

The only gripe I had with this story were the fight scenes. The fight scenes were kinda confusing? I felt like I didn’t have a good grasp as to what was going on & what people were actually doing until later when the death/killing of someone was mentioned later on

Characters:
Nadya: I actually really liked her. I can see how she can be seen as annoying and naive in the book, but I think that comes with the territory when you grow up in a very religious household, forced to believe certain things and then you go off to college and you start to see that your family's/community's interpretation of any religious text is not the only way that it can be understood and interpreted. So I understood her struggle with going back and forth on her religious belief's, her powers and what her role is in the overall problem/war that is going on in the world.

...I love Malachiasz, NO RAGRETS. His back story is CRAZY & he just deserves a peaceful life filled with tea & cookies
