A great children's book to begin to teach about the 1967 Referendum. There aren't alot of words but the way it is written is so impactful. The story follows to little girls that are best friends, one is Aboriginal and the other white. There are examples of segregation that are shameful and easy for kids to see how unjust these laws were (E.g. the two girls not being able to use a swimming pool or sit together at the cinema).

The gorgeous illustrations and the use of photographs, badges, etc really brought this book into reality for me. I also loved that the patterns of each of the girls dresses were used as the end papers. I just thought that was such a special touch.

Telling the story of the author's childhood, being forcibly taken from her family and denied her culture. It describes the daily goings on, the punishments and the ways the children would entertain themselves. The book is filled with Kunyi's incredible artworks.
