I think I found my second ever 6 star read.
M.L. Wang, you are on an entirely different level of writing. The characters, the plot, the prose, the world building, the magic system, the literal roller coaster of emotions this book put me through. My god. I cannot wait to read Sword of Kaigen.

YES YES YES YES YES. I absolutely love books that keep me guessing and gasping and "OMG"ing until the very end, and this book absolutely nailed this. There is SO MUCH representation, strong female roles, focus on real world issues, all wrapped up into a dark academia, private school setting with the best of the spooky vibes. I absolutely recommend this to anyone and everyone.

I've found another Roman Empire to start telling everyone about. This. Was. FANTASTIC.
Also, 15/10 recommend LISTENING to this one. The narrators are amazing and so so integral to getting the full experience of this story.
Can't wait to read Camp Damascus next!
