The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
4.0
Well well well. Finally a vampire book I didn't cringe at!
Out of my deep love for Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series, I put my eye roll on pend mode and decided I would give this a try. And OH MY GOD was I glad!!! Fantastic story, awesome main character that doesn't leaving you sighing in frustration but rather fist pumping the air and flowing literature that has you hooked from the get go.
Grab your cup of tea, cuddle into your blanket, and get ready to be immersed into another reality. This book will certainly take you there.

Okay okay okay... geepers. Marie Lu always amazes me with stories on subjects I usually find boring. And each time I bitch and moan... and each time I find myself pleasantly surprised.
Who wouldn't want to be able to live in a virtual world... while still being present in the real world around you? The imagery that is created in this book is amazing. It took me about 0.5 seconds to be entirely immersed, much to the dismay of everyone around me.
I'm going to keep this short, but... Emika is no your usual damsel in distress (if that type of thing interests you). And she is a total nerd lol(Although, she is probably one of the few nerds that gets to meet the object of her fangirling in person) The characters aren't the most well rounded I have ever come across, and the love interest is a bit questionable, however the story comes together nicely and as a whole it creates a universe in which you can lose yourself for some time and does not make you impatient to finish.
All in all, a good read and an interesting take on virtual reality. :)

The Bright Report Volume 3 by Marcel M. du Plessis

The work of a brilliant mind, honestly. Throughout each story, however short, you get the fully essence of each character, unique and rich without descprition necessarily, but in mannerism. While each story seems stand-alone, you get the idea of how each thread leads to a bigger picture of a marvelous world ripe with possibility. Whether you like the essentric learning capabilities of a certain librarian or the flavourful flashbacks of a detective longing for the past, there is something for everyone in this collection of enigmatic stories.
If you love Terry Pratchett, this is definitely a must read!

The Silent Symphony by Marcel M. du Plessis

I've been thinking for a whole day now since I finished this book, and honestly... wow.
What a ride! It felt somewhat like riding on the most exciting rollercoaster of my life, except there were no seatbelts and I had a drink in my hand (bad idea, friends).
Firstly, this book is so beautifully written. The language alone makes it worth it. The author was able to make me feel as if I were one of his silent watchers myself, rooting for our intrepid heroes through their harrowing journeys. I felt myself falling in love with the characters on a soul deep level, and each cut to them left a mark on my own skin.
Where do I even start this? I mean, I could ramble on about the intricate wordsmithing and worldbuilding all day. *Hold my drink*... If your soul is thirsty, my friends, this book will satiate the need.
Let me start with our narrator.. A watcher in the truest sense, who could not help themselves when it came to looking after their charges, as it were. A story you cannot help to try and unravel.
Cassius... my dear sweet boy... what can I say, I have a thing for the tall and dark, and the need in me to protect him grew in me like a storm.
Kat... poor lost artist, someone you find yourself relating to despite her quirks.
Aylena... *heartbreak* her story will leave you in tears.
Warrick.. what can I even say about such a broken person, looking to piece together what they are left to be worth something? Can't we all relate on some level?
I would mention more characters, but I do not want to give away too much of the story, you see? I strongly encourage you to pick up this book and let it fill you to the brim with more emotion than you know what to do with!
All in all.. for me to have to take a day to process the devastation and pure bliss this book caused my brain and heart... that is all the praise I can give. Truly, what a magnificent piece of work. A world built so beautifully, with so many places for you to explore, if you only know to look! I felt it coming to life before my eyes.. I was walking the streets as the Silence grew.. I was taking art classes with Kat, and writing my heart out with Cass, and working at the Lilac Tree with Aylena.
Mr du Plessis, bravo my friend. Truly, your heart and soul could be felt in this piece, and I was honoured to be part of the journey through the Silence and beyond.

The Curse of Balar by Marcel M. du Plessis
5.0
A Literary Delight with a Twist of Darkness!
If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you took the darkest parts of your imagination, tossed in a pinch of gruesome humor, and sprinkled it with characters who could give a moral philosopher a nervous breakdown, then The Curse of Balar is the book you’ve been waiting for.
First off, let’s talk about the world-building. Balar isn’t just a town—it’s a personality all on its own. Picture a place so grim that even the crows seem to gossip about it. From the haunted hills to the eerily silent cathedral that chimes only at midnight, every corner of Balar whispers a tale of tragedy, betrayal, and mystery. It’s a town that wears its secrets like a cloak—and trust me, you’ll want to unravel them all.
Now, the plot. It’s a web of intrigue so tightly woven that even the most seasoned detective would be out of breath trying to keep up. There’s something ominous behind every corner, and no character is as simple as they first appear. It’s a delightful puzzle, with twists so sharp, they’ll have you questioning your own sanity by the time the final pieces fall into place. Who’s playing who? And why does everyone in Balar look like they’ve been possessed by the ghosts of bad decisions?
And then, there are the characters. Oh, the characters! From the morally grey antiheroes to the eccentric villains who seem to be auditioning for a role in a horror movie, each character is written with depth that gives them life (and occasionally, death). You’ll find yourself rooting for the least likely people, and just when you think you’ve figured them out, they’ll pull a stunt that makes you question your life choices. I mean, who wouldn’t love a thief who’s afraid of a cat?
The plot also weaves in deep themes of betrayal, redemption, and—let’s face it—questionable life choices. It’s like watching a bad soap opera where everyone’s a little too charming to be trusted. And don’t even get me started on the ending... it’s the kind of twist that makes you want to re-read the whole thing just to catch the clues you missed (or were too busy being terrified to notice). I had many ALL CAPS QUESTIONS for the poor author XD
If you love a good dark fantasy, where the world is as bleak as the characters are complex, then you’ll devour The Curse of Balar. It’s a page-turner that mixes grimness with humor, a splash of romance, and enough intrigue to keep you awake at night wondering what’s coming next. A must-read for anyone who enjoys their fantasy served with a side of twisted moral dilemmas! I can't wait to get to book 2, I have sooooo many questions.
Also - I'll never admit it but.... this had me hardcore looking over my shoulder for days lol XD

Elven Crown by Kathrin Hutson, Kathrin Hutson
5.0
If you thought Elven Shadow was a rollercoaster, then Elven Crown will send you straight into the next loop-de-loop. This second installment grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Rebecca Bloodshadow, now firmly in control of Shade, must face off with her past while juggling the threats in her present—and believe me, the stakes are higher than ever.
Rowan Blackmoon, reappears with a vengeance, and the two are caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. His charm, arrogance, and sheer unpredictability are infuriating... (and endearing if we must be honest). But despite how much he ruffles her feathers, I couldn’t help but be drawn into their tense interactions. The chemistry between these two is electric—every moment feels like it could explode into something more dangerous than it already is.
Hutson’s world-building is as sharp and intriguing as ever. The setting is rich with magical rituals, intricate power dynamics, and dark secrets, all building up to the ominous and brutal test that will determine the fate of the characters I've grown way too attached to (I'm not crying, you are). If you’re looking for a book that will keep you second-guessing every character’s motives, Elven Crown delivers in spades.
What I loved most about this book was Rebecca’s growth as a leader. We see her struggle with the weight of her secrets, balancing the need to protect her identity while keeping Shade intact. It’s not just about magic and power—this book digs deep into the choices that shape who we become, especially when the past refuses to stay buried.
So, if you’re ready for a sequel that’s just as action-packed, witty, and emotionally intense as the first, Elven Crown won’t disappoint. It’s got all the right ingredients—danger, romance, betrayal, and, of course, magic. I’m already counting the days until the next book. Bring it on, Rowan.

Elven Shadow by Kathrin Hutson
4.0
I'd like to start my three part apology by saying how amazing you are, Kathrin Hutson... and then sorry that I haven't posted this sooner!
Okay, let me be honest—I wasn’t expecting Elven Shadow to grab me the way it did. This book is a total whirlwind, and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s chaotic, fast-paced, and just the right amount of messy, which actually makes it all the more fun.
Rebecca Bloodshadow, the main character, is an absolute gem. She’s got that sarcastic, no-BS attitude that I just clicked with from the start. She’s trying to stay out of the spotlight, but somehow, her world just keeps blowing up around her. Probably doesn't help that her team are just... well... A bunch of disasters... lovable to an extent, but still XD Aldous, the changeling, drives me crazy, but I couldn’t help but laugh at his utter lack of self-awareness. I mean, the guy is a walking disaster, and somehow, his team keeps following him from one disaster to another lol.
But honestly, it’s the chemistry between these characters that really sells this book. They’re flawed, funny, and completely relatable in their messiness. It’s the kind of team you can’t help but root for, even when you know they’re probably doomed. The magic is wild—complex spells, wards, and all kinds of crazy powers—and it all adds to the intensity of the story. It’s like nothing ever goes according to plan, and it’s that unpredictability that kept me hooked.
I didn’t just enjoy the action and chaos though—there’s also this underlying sense of heart that I wasn’t expecting. Yeah, the team’s a mess, but there’s something deeply human about watching them stumble through their problems and somehow come together when it counts. If you’re into magic, action, and characters you’ll want to stick with even when they’re making all the wrong choices, this book is for you.
It’s a blast from start to finish, and I genuinely can’t wait to dive into more of this world. If you’re looking for a fun, unpredictable read with plenty of heart and humor, Elven Shadow won’t disappoint.
