Overall, the book was good. A romance novel with a historical backdrop. Delivered good character development, and could have taken it even deeper into the darker side. Nevertheless, a solid 3 day read.

Finished right as 60 Minutes presented their supposed scandal. Doesn't change much for the rating in that it is motivational and descriptive. Definitely would recommend for anyone pursuing non-profit work.

This a review from a non history buff. Felt like I was in a very motivated professor's class. Informational and captivating to where one would like to further research the Civil War in its entirety.

This was my only Mary Karr read, and I found it very honest & forthcoming. I also wasn't into the whole conversion, but it's her life & not mine. She kept an alcoholic memoir away from becoming a pity party or anger based book. Definitely worth a read

A straight forward, no frills attached style to recovery. He doesn't make you pity him, but rather opens your eyes to the ignorant society we live in. How we rely on the media for the truth they bury. How we are apathetic to needs other than physical. How as a country, we are still lacking in veteran support. Made me want to know how to better support, who to write, and how to be more sensitive upon seeing service animals. Highly inspiring and raw. Awesome.
