"life is so sad, he would think in those moments. it's so sad, and yet we all do it. we all cling to it; we all search for something to give us solace."

This book took me almost a month to finish. Never has a book completely shattered my heart to this extent. I want to hide this book where no one can read it and where nothing bad can happen to these characters ever again.
Yes, this book is extremely wordy and I felt parts were a bit repetitive.
Yes, parts of this book made me want to close it and stop reading.
Yes, possibly every harm a person could endure is depicted in this book in one way or another.
The trauma and experiences specificity to one of the character’s was extremely hard to read at times.
(I didn’t read the content warnings before starting this book BUT you definitely should!)
Because of the content, it’s been hard for me to decide what to rate it.

BUT with that said, this book was very well written and evoked so many feelings. I’ve been deeply affected by it. The transitions from the past to the present and into the future were done beautifully. The character development was so well done in the beginning that the next chapter could start from a completely different persons perspective and you would know exactly what character it’s about without the Author ever having to say their name.
The love between the characters is what makes this book. Growing up, growing old, growing apart, and a love without judgement made it so beautiful.
The last few pages had me lost for words.

I am glad I read it, I am also glad it's over.

Super quick read but wow, this book is great for girls and woman. So beautifully told!

Favorite quote from the book:
“That’s what the best books do.
 They make you think,
and rethink how you see yourself,
 others, and the world.
Most of all, they make you feel.
Feelings toward people who aren’t like you. Feelings you didn’t know
 you had”

I loved the concept of this story. I thought it was very insightful and thought provoking.
However I did predict a few things that were going to happen pretty early on I still really enjoyed it!

It's all about first love and how it changes you. I loved the simplicity yet depth it provided. I wish I could have read it in French like intended. Definitely had me emotional.
