When Jack was younger, he fled his home to escape the demon attached to him. Years later, Jack has a wife and two daughters of his own and is living his life. After an accident, his youngest daughter, Charlie, begins to act oddly, and it all brings back memories of Jack's early life. Jack realizes his past has come to find him.

I've seen this book all over TikTok and decided to give it a try. I've been having a hard time deciding what to read,  but this story caught my attention immediately. The characters and storyline kept me turning the pages. The creepy child trope is one that will always be worth reading. This was a quick and creepy read that I really enjoyed.

Stella Hudson becomes the best interest attorney for a young girl named Rose Barclay. Rose has seen her nanny's body after an accident, and her parents are divorcing. From the first moment she enters the Barclay house, she knows something is very wrong. Having dealt with something as traumatic as a child, Stella knows it is up to her to keep Rose safe.

Sarah Pekkanen always writes an amazing thriller with dark components. She creates a rather creep character of nine year-old Rose. She actually makes you wonder what a child could be capable of. This is a fun summer thriller that will be a quick read when enjoying some time in the sun.

The ladies who live at Briarwood House are residents and nothing more until Grace March moves in. She quickly works on befriending everyone, and soon, they are holding weekly dinners in her room. When Grace's history comes to find her, in a terrible way, the woman must decide what means more: Grace's past or the friendships they have created.

I'm a sucker for a good Kate Quinn novel, and this was no exception. All of the characters are likable except for those designed not to be. Watching their friendships form as we get to know each woman and who they truly are is beautiful. The support that they provide each other is what should happen between women. My favorite character has to be Reka, a cranky Hungarian woman who came to America to escape he death camps only to lose everything important to her. She is very outspoken, but underneath, she loves the women she lives with. This is a fantastic book about female friendships and the way they shape our lives.

Thirty years ago, Ethan's best friend, Billy, went missing during their weekly backyard sleepover. As soon as he could, Ethan left his little cul-de-sac to forgo the memories. Now that Ethan has returned home, he can sense Billy everywhere. After his friend's body is found, Ethan knows he has to do something to solve his friends murder even if it means reliving his worst nightmare.

It's never officially summer until Riley Sager releases a new novel. The twists and turns in this book were fantastic, and I did not expect the ultimate reveal. Sager is always good for a propulsive summer thriller, and this is no different. The characters are interesting, and the plot was fun to follow. Sager will always be an author worth reading.

This collection of nine short stories gives us a behind the scenes look at these Black women as they cometo understand who they are and who they strive to  be. While some fight feelings that they do not believe they should have, another sets the rules for her married lover, while another woman deals with the heartache of caring for a sick parent.

This was a book I tried to take in slowly as I wanted to savor every word. Reading this book was  like peering into the lives of women I have known. The writing is beautiful, and the imagery vivid. There were stories I would could have gone on longer so I could get to know these women better. I hope to read more from Deesha Philyaw as I believe it will be as good as this.

A locked in thriller that takes place deep on the sea bed. After the first walk on the sea bed, things begin to happen. One by one, members of the crew begin to drop dead with no apparent reason. Despite taking many precautions, the deaths keep coming. As the journey to land begins, the truth comes to light, and it is shocking.

This was a great clustrophobic story. Imagine being stuck in a very small tube on the bottom of the sea with no safe way out. This was a very slow build-up to a rapid fire ending that will shock you. It's important to note that all of the characters are unreliable - all of them are under suspicion. Will Dean is a fantastic thriller writer and always keeps me on my toes.

Effa Manley knew she was destined for more than working in someone else's store - she was meant to be the boss.  After marrying her second husband, she began to climb Harlem's social ladder. She quickly makes her name as a civic leader and then her husband buys a baseball team in the Negro League. Effa quickly shows herself as a no-nonsense boss who always does right by her team. Thank to her hardwork, she becomes the first, and still only, woman inducted into the baseball hall of fame.

I'm starting to understand that some of the most interesting women in history are those who are never discussed. Effa was a firecracker for sure but she was also exceptionally bright. She was a born leader. That being said, I felt some of the story, if true, should have remained private. I just don't see how writing about her and her husband's bedroom arrangements mattered in the course of the story. I liked the story of her life and widh I'd learned of her soon.

Clay and Amanda take their children to the outerbanks of Long Island for a nice vacation. One night, there is a knock on the door, and it is the owners of the house; they are panicked and want to stay. They bring news of a blackout throughout New York City, but they believe there is more to it. As they try to figure out what is happening, strange things start to occur.

I really don't know what happened in this story. I don't know why the owners came home. What happened that made them travel all the way to their home in Long Island instead of their Manhattan apartment? None of this story came together for me. Also, the adults in this story were terrible people. I didn't like any of them and despised having to listen to them. This book was not a good fit for me at all.

It's 2034,  and USN Commodore Sarah Hunt is on the bridge of the USS John Paul Jones when she notices an unflagged trawler sitting in the South China Sea, so she goes to help. At the same time, US Marine aviator Chris "Wedge: Mitchell, while testing a new stealth technology, flies in Iranian airspace. These two events are the catalyst for the 3rd World War.

Political thrillers are not the norm for me, but when I heard about this on my favorite podcast, I had to give it a try. This book hooked me right from the start. The build-up to the actual war was very well done. The ends that the US went to in order to win were frightening but a very real possibility days. Watching how those in charge dealt with what happened was one of the most interesting parts. This book makes you wonder would happen if this situation truly occurred and how those in charge would handle it. This was a fantastic read.

Carrie has always been different. She has also been relentlessly bullied for being different. Raised by an ultra-religious mother, Carrie is taught that people are evil. After years of taunting, prom night is the final straw. Through her terrifying ability of telekinesis, Carrie gets revenge on the town that never treated her right.

This has been on my TBR for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally read it. King's first attempt at a novel was amazing. His ability to draw you into the story is unmatched. He paints Carrie as such a beten down character, both by her mother and her classmates, that you can't help but feel proud of her when she finally gets her revenge. There is definitely more Stephen King in my future.
