A lovely short story. Not what I expected, because the Snow Queen herself barely plays a part in the story. All the adaptations have clearly created her, this story shows not much more than the idea of her.

Everything that is wrong with the Disney movie is not wrong with the original story. It feels more like a Greek myth than a princess story. Absolutely loved it. Although the audiobook wasn’t great.

I totally forgot about this story. It’s short and sweet, this edition has some amazing illustrations. And a page with background information, including several different endings that different publishers have chosen to use since the original publication. The consideration for this was de amount of freedom and feminism the story should have. The original is a bit in the middle. This version has left out the part where the prince wants to change her name.

I liked this book, it was a lot of fun. It was properly weird and imaginative at the same time. It was short for the long story it told. One thing that did bother me, as todays reader, is the christian education that the book contains. It feels really out of place in a book that is about science and fantasy.

For this book, I listened to the audiobook. This was brilliantly told by Ruth Redman. The book was interesting and gave a good idea of Jane’s life. I had my doubts at first, thinking the book would only focus on Jane’s personal life and not her life as a writer. But Worsley finds a perfect balance between the two. Would absolutely recommend this if you are looking for a biography of Jane Austen.

This book was such a surprise. It reminded me of the typical Dutch literature I often read, dragged into the 21st century. Only in writing, because the story takes place earlier. It was fresh, clever, original and so much more. A larger review is on my website.
