I loved the folklore, I loved the atmosphere, I loved the characters, I just wish it had all been longer and more fleshed out!

So much potential but it was barely 100 pages, so it barely had the opportunity to go into any real depth.

The premise of the story was very interesting, however reading it I was disappointed.

None of the characters were interesting for me, I did not care about a single one of them, not even the hippos which were featured prominently in the first few chapters and then just kind of forgotten? I couldn't relate to any of the relationships, one in particular could have been very good but... I just have no idea how and why this relationshiop happened? One moment there was nothing and the next there were feelings?

Many bits of (back) story were picked up but never really explained or wrapped up, all in all the whole book just felt... unfinished. Everything could've been a bit more fleshed out.

I did like the diverse cast of characters though, especially the fat representation.
