Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Mirjam Pressler, Anne Frank, Otto H. Frank, Susan Massotty
4.0
i didn't expect to enjoy this book this much. i pretty much picked it up because it's known as being an important part of world war ii literature. i found anne frank's insights into what it was like to be a jew in nazi germany to be really eye opening. it's very sad knowing what her and her families ultimate fate was while reading this. and it's equally tragic to know that such a bright, driven, deep young girl never got to live out her dreams and meet her full potential. i'll definitely be reading more world war ii books after reading this one, but this was definitely a good place to start.
Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
4.0
if i was just rating the last part of the book it would be a 5. i just wasn't that into it until then (well not as into it as i should be for a thriller). i found myself not really caring what happened or being that invested in the characters. BUT once we started to get to the bottom of what happened to those girls, it was great. so many twists and turns and lies (of course). very well done.
M Train by Patti Smith
4.0
the reading of this book was exclusive to coffee shops and it was the perfect setting to indulge in patti smiths words. she writes about nothing while writing about so much at the same time. there were heaps of recommendations for music, books, entertainment. there were bits of history I didnt know about. overall i enjoyed reading this but there were sections where I wasnt interested in.
The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative by Florence Williams
2.0
I learned some things, and others were confirmed for me from my own experiences but overall I wasn't as interested or blown away by the material as i expected i would be.
From a Low and Quiet Sea by Donal Ryan
2.0
this story went right over my head. i just couldn't get into it. saying that, there were parts (especially Farouks story) that were interesting to read. and some really beautiful and insightful passages that caught my imagination. but overall i didn't get much out of it. it might be because i'm early in my reading journey, but the writing style, long sentences, no quotation marks for words spoken really bugged me. and the amount of swearing was too much for me. saying this, i can understand why this book would get the praise it seems to be getting.
Quotations of John F Kennedy by John Kennedy
3.0
as someone whose been really interested (borderline obsessive at times) in the kennedy's history and legacy over the past few years I am happy to give anything kennedy related a go. great little book of quotes from the short life of jfk. always in awe of how forward thinking he was. will definitely refer back to this book when I need some motivation.
Life Will Be the Death of Me: . . . and You Too! by Chelsea Handler
4.0
I have always enjoyed Chelsea Handlers humour/comedy but after this book I like her even more. This book is funny BUT the best part of it is how honest she was about her experience in therapy, her braveness in putting the energy into bettering herself and that it's never too late to become who you're supposed to be. bravo Chelsea. (and i definitely recommend the audio book)
