I really didn’t like this book for 2/3 of it because the character is so unlikeable to me but the ending is encouraging, maybe I had high expectations for this book bc there so much hype, but it lacked some emotion and heart for me. this read like a YA book which I didn’t like either

I picked this up because I like video games and people seemed to like it. But this destroyed me a little. This book has so much heart. This is a very cozy and comforting coming of age read that doesn't surround high school and angst. This book is about life, friendship, death, trauma, failure, what ownership is, and how relationships can transform over time. The characters feel so real in their flaws and motivations. This book deserves a second read to grasp all of the symbolism, easter eggs, etc., but the first read is just as moving. The NPC chapter made me cry and I rarely cry reading books. The main takeaway I would say is that the worst of things happen for the best and the best of things happen for the worst in life and that life is better when we aren't alone.

The author blends her own life with history, analysis of film/book/tv, and poetry without straying too far from the story. It all references each other beautifully. I felt like I was there with her; she describes her feelings in an understandable way. I enjoyed the first read, but I know the second or third read will be better.
