It's a bit old but not outdated; the writer knows her stuff and tries to keep it light-hearted and encouraging.

I got a lot out of this book and I think all novice writers would too. Anyone who likes hearing "Write what you want. There are no rules!" will probably not enjoy it.

Status Anxiety by Alain de Botton

Did not finish book. Stopped at 59%.
The middle of the book feels dedicated to examples of status anxiety portrayed in different sectors. That's not bad or uninteresting, but it did make me lose momentum because the first few chapters were much more enlightening.
