well. this is going to be short (kinda like the book). personally, i thought this book was really overrated. it was well-written for the age of the main character, but, well, there’s no way for me to sugarcoat it. it was boring. the main action in the book was Joseph smiling slightly more and hearing his story. the climax was surprisingly decent, although i thought it and the ending were rushed. a lot of people loved this book, but it just wasn’t for me :)

4 1/2 stars. a cute little summer romance, and i loved the touches of other people's stories blending into the two main characters'. can you really fall in love in one day? probably not, but it's nice to pretend. i did like the ending, where it was realistic in that she got deported, their relationship didn't last, & happy in that epilogue of the pair meeting up again. one thing i really enjoyed was the emphasis on how much your actions affect the people around you. i love nicola yoon's writing style, with the many viewpoints & background information. overall, it was a sweet book that i think is worth reading, but i probably wouldn't categorize on my favorites list.
