The Executioner by Chris Carter
2.0
This was recommended to me by someone as I had not read a crime fiction novel before and thought I would delve into a new genre. The story was OK but the writing was questionable. The short chapters are irritating because it feels like you can't get into a rhythm and reads more like a report than a novel. The fact that nearly all the female characters are extremely attractive seemed unrealistic and pointless and the descriptive chapters of characters who are just about to die is somewhat annoying because it's quite pointless when there is such little good description of relevant people and situations.
Seeing that Carter is a forensic psychologist turned writer makes it less surprising that the book read more as a report and perhaps explains why it's hardly the best book I've ever read however I did enjoy the story line so I'll give him that. As this one is early on in the series, maybe his writing gets better as it goes on, I can think of many writers where the change in skill is obvious as time has gone on so there's hope yet.
