The Pucking Wrong Guy by C.R. Jane
5.0
I love hockey. I love stalkery, dark romances. Put the two together and you get Ari! Now, if you don't love your fictional men with more red flags than you would find on a golf course, Ari is probably not going to be your next book boyfriend. But if you love a man obsessed, who will do anything to get the girl that got away (and I do mean ANYTHING), then Ari is your guy.
While this is technically an interconnected standalone and you can read it before you read The Pucking Wrong Number, I do think you'll have a better understanding of everyone involved (including Ari) if you read them in order. Plus, Lincoln is another red-flag-riddled, hockey playing, man obsessed book boyfriend that you need to meet anyway.
Now, I'm really NOT trying to talk you out of reading it... in fact, I know some people who use these as a shopping list for their next read (it's me, hi, i'm the problem, it's me). But, if you're still on the fence and really want to know the details before deciding, here are some of the content warnings you can keep in mind (but ONLY show spoilers if you REALLY don't mind being spoiled, because these WILL hint/outright tell you things that Ari does in his mission to get his girl).
(I'm trying to be vague, but also let you know what you're in for here... sorry if I fall short or tell you too much... I warned you):
[
* stalking
* phone tampering
* other man deception
* roommate trickery
* forced marriage

I absolutely adored this book. I finished it in less than 18 hours and I definitely feel a book hangover coming on now... I'm still listening to the playlist and thinking about the hauntingly perfect dance (IYKYK). I read this one on KU but have already ordered the paperback and can't wait to reread it as soon as #2 is available!
Plier does a fantastic job at beginning to set up the world of Isobel Carter, a rare Sigma in a world dominated by Betas, Deltas, and Omegas. On the other end of the hierarchy (or at the top...) are the Alphas, almost as rare as the Sigmas, but with all of the power and prestige you would expect.
But this is not a typical Omegaverse you may be familiar with... Sigmas are treated as the lowliest of low and Isobel is no different. Until she is...
If you're into reality shows and intrigued by the dynamics of the Omegaverse hierarchy, Plier is for you! This is the start of a why-choose series, but it appears it's going to be a slooooow burn. Friendships are beginning to form, but this book is not at all spicy. I would imagine it's not far off though, so keep that in mind going into the series.
