the most interesting point of view ever.  i felt as though, I myself grew up on an island, which i didn’t.

i’ve seen some people on here be disgusted by the excessive mention of bodily fluids, however while I understand that it is disgusting, i get why it was done. being in the head of a young girl who discovers the world, she would focus on disgusting and weird stuff. after all she is just a girl.

loved the friendship and discovery in here - had some devastating quotes.

this felt like reading connell waldron’s life story if he never met marianne, in the best way possible.

there honestly couldn’t have been a better time to read this.

picture this - 26 hour bus trip from frankfurt (germany) to mostar (bosnia) cigarette stops and dirty toilets followed by 30 minute naps and being woken up by loud traditional Bosnian music. waking up between mountain view’s filled by beautiful lake water, looking over my shoulder and looking at the beautiful faces of my friends. pure fulfillment of the essence of this book.

that alone got this reading experience to 5 stars, and even without that, i would’ve loved this book. the messiness of friendship and leaving home and trying to deal with the pain of it all.

the only thing i could potentially complain about is the ending feeling a bit rushed but that seems pretty reflective of life itself.

let me start off by saying that i’m a big fan of her writing style!!! big big fan

underlined so many quotes especially in the first 100 pages, might’ve even shed a tear or two, wether that can be blamed on my daddy issues or the book itself, i do not know. but honestly, i felt some of those quotes crushing my soul!! the last two pages? oh my dear lord, yes yes yes!!

almost stopped reading for a second there cause some parts of the bdsm, made me so uncomfortable (which i do think was the whole point but still, i was unprepared) and i also think i would’ve liked more of her character, ending felt a bit rushed but that is life in its own way.

loved loved loved the female relationships in this story, nothing more important than having a good group of girls around you <3
