This was the slowest one in the series so far, but I think it might be my favorite? Taran’s journey of self-discovery was so good and I can’t gush enough about this series.

The descent into madness was slow paced but man, did it hit like a ton of bricks when it finally took over. Even as a schoolboy, Snow is self-serving and cruel. In the moments he has kindness, cruelty wasn’t far behind.
This was an excellent example of how to write a semi-sympathetic villain’s downward spiral into absolute evil and I love Suzanne Collins even more for it.

This is a masterclass story. To be able to come back to Haymitch after so many years away from the series, and to write this story? Suzanne Collins is a genius and this book has left me broken.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I came into the series having seen the show, so my expectations were already high and the book certainly delivered. As someone in their 30s, it was refreshing to have a protagonist I could relate to.
I enjoyed the relationship as it developed between Diana and Matthew, but even more I enjoyed the relationships that theirs encouraged.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but if you’re in the mood for a dynamic and at times cozy read, I highly recommend beginning this series.
