“She, Mika Moon, would not be the witch who transformed the world, but she was making it a little better, day by day.”

A secret witch making silly witchcraft videos because she doesn’t think anyone will take her seriously suddenly gets hired to teach three witch children about magic. The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was fun and cozy and I had a really great time reading it. It took me less than a day to finish and that’s saying something because I’ve been an awful reading slump for weeks now.

The characters were funny and their different personalities made for a chaotic bunch. I found myself anticipating what’s going to happen next just because their interactions were really entertaining and heartwarming. Bonus points for the romance in the book<333

“You and I are two sides of the same coin, Sheridan. I’m not sure how we were ever going to end up anywhere but here.”

When I found out An Education in Malice was based on Carmilla I knew I had to get my hands on it ASAP. This is my first S.T. Gibson book and I have to say her writing is just beautiful!!! I love the bisexual and lesbian rep.

This was a bit slow for me especially at first but I did enjoy the vibe of an all-girls college in the late 60’s with an academic rivalry between Laura and Carmilla. There is an attraction between them but their desperation for approval from their professor, De Lafontaine, was stronger. I knew their relationship was inevitable but it felt rushed to me how they got there.

An Education in Malice explores the toxic relationship between a teacher and her student and the power dynamics involved. I did not like De Lafontaine at all. I felt like the ending was too forgiving for her. After all the things Laura and especially Carmilla went through I don’t think what happened was punishment enough.

Thank you Netgalley and Redhook Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“I’m so tired of playing nice, of smiling as people walk over me. What I’m realizing is that if you’re quiet about the things that hurt you, people are only going to mistake your tolerance for permission. And they’re going to hurt you again and again.”

I might be a little biased here because Ann Liang is one of my favorite authors, but this book was so good!!! I Hope This Doesn’t Find You was an emotional yet fun journey about girlhood. I sacrificed sleep because I could not put it down and every second lost was worth it.

Sadie Wen is a high-achieving people pleaser whose email drafts containing rants towards various people suddenly become exposed to the public. Even worse, her academic rival, Julius Gong, received the forty-something emails meant for him.

Despite Sadie being a teenager, I could find myself empathizing with her especially with her people pleasing tendencies. There’s just something about Ann Liang’s books that heals teenage me, that’s why I love them so much.

“And in their corner all they had was Murderbot, who just wanted everyone to shut up and leave it alone so it could watch the entertainment feed all day.”

All Systems Red was quite an easy read for me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it because I haven’t read a lot of science fiction, but luckily I did. It was humorous with just the right amount of action.

I enjoyed Murderbot’s character and I think its thoughts were funny. I found myself relating to it with a lot of things like its social anxiety and just wanting to binge watch its shows. I didn’t really feel any attachment towards the humans but I did appreciate that they treated Murderbot as one of them and not something that’s easily replaceable. I’m so happy for this android and his little found family.

“Your shoulders were not meant to bear the weight of their expectations, Signa. You were not made to please others.”

What a beautiful sequel to Belladonna!! Every element I loved in the first book was still present in Foxglove. The book immediately continued the events that happened in Belladonna’s epilogue, and the plot moved smoothly from there.

Fate was definitely an interesting character, I thought I was going to dislike him but instead I just felt bad for him. Was he annoying when he wouldn’t leave Signa alone and kept getting between her and Death? Yes. But the poor guy was just desperate to be reunited with his lost love.

Signa, Blythe, and Death were still such amazing characters and I loved them even more, especially Blythe since she now has her own POV in the book.

This series has been an immediate favorite for me and I cannot wait to see what’s about to come for these characters and the people around them.
