Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism

Sarah Wynn-Williams

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

I found the tone of this book to be too absolutely naive, especially given all we know now, for me to stomach. I can't get away from the narrator being complicit, and I don't take seriously the tone of detachment from the evil.

DID NOT FINISH

I realized that life is too short, and there's already too much bad stuff in my brain these days, to recreationally read books about people I hate!

This book is batshit crazy. The abundant puppets! The completely unnecessarily convoluted human trafficking plot! The sex in extremely inappropriate and frightening situations! I can’t even.

But it’s Julie Anne Long, so it’s somehow still plenty readable and clever, and the MCs are likable. And the line “Well, there’s that done, then” absolutely sent me into space cackling.

This book is absolutely wild, the title and cover completely misrepresent the contents, I am still not quite sure I understand the excessively complicated conspiracies underlying the plot... and I still enjoyed it.

Not my favorite Ali, but that still means it’s a lot better than most books I’ll read this year! And kudos to AH for her unwavering and long-term commitment to shading El*n M*sk and his crappy car company every chance she gets… love to see it.
