This was really cute and well-done for what it is, which is a short and steamy instalove novella with a slightly bonkers premise! I enjoyed it, but I also wanted a little more. Looking forward to reading other work by this author.
A lovely romance between Andrew and Lily, childhood friends who reunite after years apart. Lily is ambitious and generally an intersectional feminist badass; Andrew is a nice and helpful guy who just wants to garden and support his community. The MCs in this book are everything!
⭐️ I have been WAITING for Andrew’s story in this series; he’s such a delight in previous books. This completely met my expectations and I’m so glad to see him end up with someone as wonderful as Naomi.
⭐️ Naomi deserves the world, and it’s equally delightful for her to end up with an absolute certified Wife Guy.
⭐️ Like the rest of this series, this book struggles to balance a LOT of plot things going on vs. the generally cozy and vibey tone of the book. Some of the external plot felt a little extra, cluttering the story a tad bit.
⭐️ I wish there were more books in this series! I want more Wedgeford; I kind of wish the Trials featured more prominently in books 2 and 3.

A (kind of) second chance AND fake engagement historical romance between MCs Naomi and Kai. Like the rest of the series, it’s set in the fictional and diverse community of Wedgeford.
⭐️ Kai is a potter; I loved the glimpses into the technology and processes he would have used at the time. And some of those descriptions of him working with clay 🥵
⭐️ Naomi is pushing against the boundaries imposed on her by her family and the world at large. Her character arc was fantastic to watch.
⭐️ To me, some of the plot elements here (like the childhood engagement) seemed extraneous. There were just a lot of different angles in play, for a book that ultimately actually didn’t have that much plot!
⭐️ Once again, I loved getting to know the town and residents of Wedgeford, and seeing glimpses of beloved characters from book 1.

A lighthearted and hopeful historical romance between a half-Chinese duke (Jeremy) and a young Chinese woman (Chloe). It’s set in the fictional and wonderful community of Wedgeford and is centered around a competition held annually in the town. Low conflict, medium plot, lots of vibes.
⭐️ Loved the representation of Chinese culture, with an honest eye to issues of racism and xenophobia.
⭐️ Generally likable main characters, relatable for all my hyper-organized girlies with endless checklists (hi, it’s me!).
⭐️ Very cute and supportive relationship dynamic between the MMC and FMC, though some of the miscommunication/lack of communication was frustrating at times.
⭐️ Nicely sets the scene for more books set in Wedgeford — my only regret is that I have to wait for book 3 to get Andrew’s HEA!

I’ll read more by this author, definitely including the next books in this series when they come out. I enjoyed the writing. However, there was a slut shaming element that I didn’t like, even if it’s historically accurate.
This book was a disappointment, as a big fan of some of the author's previous work (Out on a Limb being one of my favorite romances ever). Here are some of my issues:
- The MMC is a creep. Juvenile sex jokes all the time, obsessed with sex. Felt like his uncontrollable caveman impulses just happened to land on a random person, and now she's the FMC.
- The dad's actions are completely inexplicable and unrealistic. Why on earth would he tell the MMC his big secret? Weird behavior.
- The FMC has basically no personality; she's just struggling through all of this family trauma that doesn't leave room for us to learn anything about her individually. Reminded me of Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez, where the trauma overshadows the actual characters without adding anything deeper.
- Why do these two even like each other?? We don't really know, because we don't really know who either of them actually are! They spend 90% of the book "putting a pin in" any difficult or deeper conversations. So there's no chemistry, no spark, no tension at all.
More vibes than plot, lovely characters, great banter and dialogue, and everything works out at the end a bit too neatly and tidily. Just like the rest of the series! Still, I loved it.
I absolutely DEVOURED this audiobook. Mhairi Morrison is a fantastic narrator for Alexandra Vasti’s books. She fits the tone and the characters so well, and I found that to be especially the case with Cat and Georgiana. This series is one of my favorite historical romance series, and this is a perfect addition to it. The creative plot, the emotions and yearning, the friends and family surrounding the main characters… all are spot on.
