Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories by Junji Ito
3.0
I thought the book was ok. There were a couple of stories I really liked. Those two were "Used Record" and "The Long Dream." I enjoyed the mystery and unknown behind the pull towards the music on the record, and the cause behind the long dreams. The "Marionette Mansion" was like something out of the Twilight Zone. Most of the others were more bizarre than scary. I was hoping for something scary. I found "Fashion Model" to be too predictable, and "Greased" I didn't care for at all.
Story's aside, I really enjoyed the artwork. This was the first time I've read a manga that's appearance was so unique. He didn't use pretty characters or backgrounds. His stories were meant to be disturbing, and his artwork really brought that out.
I wouldn't mind trying to read more from Junji Ito. Maybe there are other stories I would like just as much as the artwork.

I enjoyed this book. I found most of the chapters to be useful and/or enjoyable. Some chapters didn't apply to me, but that didn't mean they weren't good too. I definitely have a few that were my favorite. I feel this book was worth buying.
Earth Magic: Sacred Rituals for Connecting to Nature's Power by Starhawk

Absolutely loved it. I purchased the audible version because Starhawk narrates it herself, and she was a joy to listen to. This book was informational, encouraging, and inspiring. Hearing her voice at the same time made it even more personable, touching, and enjoyable. I highly recommend it.
The Explosive Child by Ross W. Greene

I purchased the audible version of this book. The author narrates it himself, and he did a great job.
I purchased this book because I was having a lot of difficulty with my daughter when she started PreK. And I mean a LOT of difficulties. I was honestly concerned that she was the worst behaved child in her grade. I was trying everything I could think of and nothing seemed to be working. Until I found this book. I listened to the entire book, applied it immediately. I did not take it easy on myself either. I did followed the book exactly no matter how hard it was at first. After just a couple of weeks there was already a huge difference. My child's school uses a color system to grade their behavior each day. She was coming home with red (the worst color) every day. Now she gets all blue (best color) with maybe an occasional yellow (falls in between) once a month. She is a child after all, she can't behave all the time. Not even us adults can do that. :)
The main points were to listen to your child and try to think on their level. Don't judge them, blow them off, or buy them off. Listen to them and let them know that their feelings, thoughts, emotions, and problems are very important to you. Treat them respectfully and as individuals, not as an object you own and control. I was already doing most of these things, but I did not do my best to communicate with her about her problems. I initially assumed she was being difficult in school on purpose because she wasn't getting her way on way thing or another. One of the first things Dr Greene says in this book is "kids do well if they can." They don't deliberately misbehave and become little terrors. It happens because they're is a gap between parent and child that hasn't been fixed yet. That's what was going on with my daughter, and now the problem is solved.
I can't thank Dr Greene enough for writing this book. It's made a huge impact on my relationship with my daughter, and how she's now succeeding in school.

Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming by Paul Hawken

It was a well thought out and very detailed book. I feel like my review isn't going to do the book justice, because it has a lot of information in it that I can't remember. There are a lot of amazing ideas that I hope will be soon implemented by the government to stop climate change and deplete the carbon footprint we are creating as a nation. There were plenty of things listed that individuals, companies/organizations, cities, states, and countries can start doing to begin the process of depleting our carbon footprint. The book wasn't just aimed at one specific audience such as business or government. It was meant for everyone. Anyone who is concerned about the planet and/or climate change should read this book.
I listened to this book through Audible. I don't know how hard it would be to read directly. It was a long Audible book. The only problem I had with listening to it on Audible was the narrator. The way he read was very monotone and sounded a lot like "text-to-speech" voice, and not a very good one.

Silent Spring by Rachel Carson

I listened to this book on Audible. The narrator did an amazing job in presenting the book to make it very interesting and easy to listen to.
The information in the book was unbelievably tragic. I feel this book should be a must read in schools, but sadly would probably be found as very boring to many high school students. If high school ever began teaching sustainability and conservation courses, this book should definitely be included in the class material. The book is very eye opening in the damage humans have caused by playing God and trying to control nature through the use of chemicals. It's scary to think how much damage still exists so many decades later after this book was written. The ignorance of a few caused so much devastation to so many who had no power to stop what was coming.

I found this to be a beautifully, inspiring book. It made me feel like I wasn't doing enough in my life to make a difference, and it made me want to do more. The stories were sad, thought provoking, influencing, wonderful, and highly enjoyable to read/listen to.
I purchased the book through audible. The narrator did a great job, and tried very hard to differentiate between all of the individuals in the book by attempting to produce their native accents during their parts in the book.
