The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power by Joel Bakan
5.0
Quite the eye-opening book if you're not already familiar with how corrupt corporations already are, and if you don't know you need to read this book. If you're already familiar with corporate corruption, read it anyway because there is a lot of horrifying information in here that you may not know.
This book takes you across the world to many third-world countries where living conditions are already poor, and you see people living in situations you believe could not get any worse. Then
corporate swoops in and turn an already bad situation into a full-blown nightmare.
Imagine breathing in air that is slowly killing you and every living creature around you, and you don't even know it until you see the people and animals around you drop lifeless to the ground.
Ever wonder if unwanted ingredients make it into your factory, processed foods?
How does that warm and soft $5 sweater your wearing get made? It's amazing that something so nice can also be sold at such a low price. Would you like to know why?

The Story of Stuff: How Our Obsession with Stuff is Trashing the Planet, Our Communities, and our Health—and a Vision for Change by Annie Leonard

A great read with in-depth information on the issue of waste and all the problems it causes. Also an amazing resource for essays or research papers on environmental issues over waste, pollution, and social injustice. Hopefully, a more up-to-date copy will be released in the near future.
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

This book was an amazing adventure with so many lovable and memorable characters.
Growing up, I heard that this book was boring, so it took me a long time to get around to reading it. I chose to read it because I loved the movies so much. What I heard about the book was far from the truth. I loved every page of it. It ended too soon, but it was an enjoyable ending nonetheless. So much happens throughout that keeps the reader, as well as the characters, on their toes. If the movies had focused more on The Hobbit and less on The Lord of the Rings, maybe they would have been better. This book ranks as one of my top 5 favorites.

Cat Daddy: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean by Jackson Galaxy
5.0
I never laughed or cried so much while listening to a book.
I purchased the audible version of the book and I was completely enthralled. I couldn't stop listening to it. Thankfully, it was less than seven-hours long. Jackson Galaxy has led an awe-inspiring life. The numerous obstacles he had to overcome to get to where he is today blows my mind. His adoration for cats, even more so.
Galaxy has an amazing way with words and has a highly intriguing writing style as well as a great story-telling voice.
I highly recommend this amazing book.

Battle Angel Alita, Vol. 1: Rusty Angel by Stephen Paul, Yukito Kishiro
2.0
I give this book two stars for the artwork and fight scenes.
Great detail went into drawing this manga. The fight scenes were pretty good. However, the characters and story lacked depth.
I had seen the 2019 film directed by Robert Rodriguez first and absolutely loved it, and I cared about the characters. The movie had an intriguing story and genuine motivation for the characters. In this book, motivation for the characters was insufficient or gave me no reason to care about the character at all.
I do not expect one manga to include much depth as far as the story goes, but at least enough to make me interested in reading more. This book did not offer that.
