It took until I was 60% through the book before it started to grab me, however, I wish it went deeper. I didn’t care enough about the characters and I think I just needed more from them. The writing was absolutely beautiful, though. I could picture every scene in my head and I could even sense the grayness portrayed. I enjoyed it enough but it left me wanting more from it. Also, I was not a fan of the end. It felt like it was missing something. It wasn’t enough of a conclusion.

This story was really heartwarming and symbolic. I loved how every character was truly caring about the others in their village. It had coming of age vibes so I think this’ll be really good for middle grade-YA readers. I’m definitely going to order a physical copy for myself. Thank you for eARC, this was such a special little graphic novel.

I read this in one sitting, and because it held my attention that way I’m giving it 3.5-4 stars. It was a pretty brutal story, to me it felt symbolic of everything women have been through at the hands of men. In reality, the success of men has always been on the backs of women. In this story, a towns existence is dependent on their blood. I really felt for Bo and really sympathized with Jude, battling such pain and also feeling so weak against intimidating people, blinded by and dependent on any form of affection. I know the characters are going to be relatable for so many people.

I didn’t think this could be better than Daughter of the Moon Goddess but I was so wrong. I spent the entirety of part III relentlessly crying. I don’t think a love triangle has ever been written better than this, with such tenderness and pain you feel to your core, each person deserving the love they seek. There were beautiful reunions and such painful losses, the balance of both written so well. I love Xingyin, Wenzhi, and Liwei as characters so so much. I wish this story didn’t have to end.

The worst part about reading a book so early is having to wait for the next in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I am in love with Lore, Gabe, and Bastian. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them now.

The court thing reminded me of The Great which was fun. I liked how Lore and Gabe’s apartments felt comfortable to me as the reader, as well as to them as characters - being the only place they didn’t have to wear their façade’s.

While I don’t know how the relationships between the three will pan out, I’m partial to the found family trope and I love the three of them together even with the tension volleying between them.

Can’t wait for more!
