I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. It felt like Elspeth was just stumbling through a lot of the story until the big predictable reveal happened.

The ending of the book was the best part, in that the dark emotionally challenging payoff was finally happening. I probably won't read the sequel, I think this story works better as fade to black.

I think having preexisting league knowledge is actually a detriment to reading this book. Knowing the final fates of the characters leads to expecting the betrayals

It's like a good quick read. Don't expect it to make you ponder your life differently afterwards. But overall a solid book
