Just absolutely delightful garbage. Racial, sexual and ethic stereotypes aplenty; horrendous sex scenes; tons of casual DV. Not to mention absurd plot lines. I loved every single second of it.

I like Attenberg’s writing very much, but the structure of the book, advancing in time with every chapter, made me feel like I never got to really know the characters.

Claustrophobic and navel-gazey.

Rainbow Rowell does such a great job with teen crushes, obsession, love. And Slow Dance is a great update of that format with a significant chunk of the book focused on the present-day adults. The MC’s communication challenges got a little old, but I loved this nonetheless.

Good lord this was cringey and unoriginal.

A bit repetitive and sometimes obscure. Otherwise beautifully crafted.

Just brilliant.

I almost DNF’d this one—the Beamer section is just so relentlessly bleak—but once I was able to read in longer chunks, and moved on to other sections, things really picked up. Still bleak, but with more humor and less repetition.

Looking for more of Anita Kelly’s work, stat.
