I haven't met an Emily Henry book that I didn't absolutely adore. She writes with such depth and emotion that I'm always captivated by every word. Beach Read was a beautiful story about hurt, healing, falling in love, and forgiveness. I really liked the main characters being writers themselves because, in a way, it allowed the reader to see more range of Henry's storytelling.
Sometimes we read books for fun, other times we read books to find ourselves, learn, and heal from whatever life is throwing at us. Because the main characters are writers, we get to see the story heal the characters while healing us as well...if that makes any sense. In Beach Read, the power of storytelling thrives and you're left "happy for now".

For about 95% of this book the Final Girls deeply hate one another and that messed up the whole book for me. Sixteen years of group therapy from a shared trauma experience doesn’t seem like it would produce a bond of hate…it felt like the trope of “women secretly hating each other” was the main thing that brought these girls together and that just didn’t sit right with me. There was so much opportunity to write about the bond of women surviving trauma and it was completely missed.
Apart from that, it’s a good mystery with fun twists and turns. Could probably be about 100 pages shorter, but still fun.

This was really special. Certain short stories were more impactful than others, Bump and Manywhere were stand-outs for me.
I think this review someone left perfectly summarizes how I felt reading it:
"They managed to develop captivating characters and intricate settings in stories that are relatively short. This, combined with the writing style, makes them stories that require your full attention—and a little bit of patience."
While certain stories dragged a bit, there was still a ton of beauty in the writing, setting, and characters that held my attention. I wouldn't file this one as a "quick read", it requires time to sit and dissect in order to appreciate it at its fullest.

This book was just fun. I love the amount of seeds of doubt that are planted in pretty much every chapter. This is a great book for when you just want a fast, easy, and thrilling read. Probably a really good reset book if you’re in a reading slump.

Finished it in a day—fast, easy read. First half is a little repetitive, but last half is explosive! It’s a sad, yet hopeful story.

This story was just gross and I hated reading it. However, it fully accomplished all it set out to do, so I’m giving it three stars. It’s interesting to be inside the head of a really unlikable character and shitty human being, but the whole time I just didn’t want to be there.

This is an incredible story, but it was such a slow read for me. I also know nothing about Practical Magic and think it wouldn’t have been such a slow read if I had more attachment to the world.
