this was not particularly well written and i personally think jazz is not a great (but also not horrible) example of a man writing a female character (this is the reason i was asked to read this so i am addressing it directly). the thing with svoboda was kind of cute though. weir is clearly having a good time explaining all the science stuff he thought of and writing a silly plot and i respect that.
readable enough for a little introductory textbook type thing, but probably a little outdated
