The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This is such an extremely well written book that no doubt took tons of time and research and for that I give it 4 stars. The story took quite a while before I became interested in it and I almost quit reading it a few times. It took a while to start to enjoy it and not force myself to pick it up but it was definitely worth it. This isn’t the usual type of book I would read, but I picked it up because of all the amazing reviews I had read. It didn’t exactly live up to the hype but it was still amazing! The ending honestly made the ENTIRE book worth it for me. <3

This was an extremely interesting book and I enjoyed this take on Peter Pan. I was never a big fan of Peter Pan but I really did enjoy this dark “retelling”. I was a little bothered by how quickly their romance progressed but the main reason I’m rating it four stars and not five is because of how gruesome some scenes were and I HATED when James stopped trusting Wendy. It made me so sad and angry and in my option was NOT necessary. But other than that, a must read, I enjoyed it and I’m not sure why most of the reviews are bad.

first off, this book is well written and i love this author and have enjoyed other books by her but this one just was not a favorite. this book has much higher ratings than the first in the never after series so i went in with high expectations and maybe that was my problem but i definitely am a little disappointed. i felt like it took over half the book for the romance to begin which is fine, as long as there is some build up to it. i really didn’t feel like there was much of a build up to it at all though. the main characters just kind of acknowledged that the other existed and they were attracted to them until one day (half way through the book) they started regularly interacting. i just wish that there were more interactions between the two towards the beginning. once you reach the middle the book gets a lot more interesting and easier to read. i do really enjoy both main characters individually though, they are very interesting and there’s a lot to both of them. i liked reading about each of them and learning more about them. it was an enjoyable read after i got to the romance but i enjoyed the first in this series a lot more. i usually tear through a book every two days but sadly this one was hard to stick with and took me a bit longer to get through.

okay. let me start off by saying i really enjoyed the first half of the book! i thought how the mc’s met was super cute and i loved how sweet they were. i think they had a very wholesome start to the relationship and i really liked that. i will admit that i am not a huge fan of love triangles or cheating which is why i didn’t rate this higher but as controversial as this may be, i thought sydney and ridge were cute together. now this may be because the book isn’t about ridge and maggies relationship, which would have been more interesting in my opinion, there’s no need to write a whole book where the main character is cheating almost the entire time. if i’m being honest, if ridge was single this would have been a 5 star read. overall it is a cute read, but definitely don’t pick it up if you hate love triangles.

pretty cute story. i picked this up after maybe someday, not quite knowing what to expect but i am pleasantly surprised. for a majority of maybe someday i was pissed off because of the love triangle, but this was a much simpler and happier story. it was a nice, quick, and easy read and i enjoyed that about it. but mostly that’s all it is, nothing more than that. it wasn’t anything special, just an extremely short novella about warren and bridgette mostly filled with smut. read it if you’re looking for something short and simple.

maybe now is the last installment to the maybe series and picks up right where maybe someday left off. for a romance novel, this book wasn’t necessarily focused on the romance. i feel this book is more about the friendships between all the main characters, getting glimpses from each point of view. i adore how much more of maggie we see in this book since the first just barely introduced her. her and jake are 100% meant to be and i loved seeing their story throughout this book. we do get both sydney and ridge’s point of view still and see small bits of romance between them, but i feel this book was much less focused on just them. i like this book for what it is, a cute story about a group of friends. i liked seeing how close all the characters got to each other, but once again the romance felt very minimal.

this book was addicting from the very beginning. i was hooked after reading the first page and tore through the first half in about 2 days (it’s a big book) but things changed once i reached the second half. the first was a nice slow burn and i loved learning about the characters past with each other, it kept me very engaged. but the second half of the book is a different story. the entire second half of the book is basically just smut… which is fine, in moderation, but i’m talking every chapter had something which can become a little overbearing. i was convinced after starting it that it was going to be a five star read, but the last half is what lowered it to four. still absolutely adore this book and author and will read at least the first half again <3

holy. i’ve read all the other books in this series and they all truly impressed me, but wow. this one was GOOD. the way i devoured this story is unreal. at first i wasn’t sure if i was feeling it but once I was about 25% in I tore through these pages. this story is truly addicting and i would want to read it over and over again. this is probably the best one in the series, so far. the others were also amazing but this one honestly is just so special and really stands out. please do yourself a favor and read this right now. thank you emily mcintire for existing <3
