While this didn't quite live up to the first book I adore it just the same
The Only Good Indians is a creeping sort of horror. At times the book felt like a contemporary book but there was always a lingering sense that something bad was about to happen in the back of my mind. It led to a reading experience that I can best describe as anxiety-inducing, which is what I am looking for in horror books.
I have some minor issues in the way this book used the suffering and deaths of women and girls in order to punish men but otherwise everything about this book was phenomenal.
I want to take some time to direct you guys to Brody and their discussion about the ways white people have talked about this book and other Indigenous books in addition to the way the book community treats Indigenous reviewers and books. This is an important discussion to have and I ask you watch their video but also stop and think about the ways you consume and discuss media by Indigenous authors in the future.

I can put not into words the ways this book has spoken to me, the ways it has called to the very essence of me. There is a frank loneliness and a narcissism and a constant displeasure and a love for monsters and women that ties me to this book, to the woman who penned nearly a century before my birth.
I understand why we had Carmen's POV in this book but I just ! wish ! we ! had ! gotten ! dani's ! too !
This is probably one of my favorite non-fiction books. It's a journalistic exploration of the past, present, and future of race science in addition to it's cultural connotations. I did have a few minor issues with IQ and intelligence being presented uncritically and remaining unchallenged despite the fact that these topics are not only controversial but also debunked.
(I don't rate non-fiction)
