Disorganized. Rambling. Self-contradictory and contrarian (the Oscar Wilde of philosophy). Purple-prosed. Hyperbolic. Obscure. Vindictive, petty, and patriarchal in his politics and sociology.
And yet...the gems of truth buried deep under bitterness and machismo are still precious more than a century later. For one example among many, he was prophetic in proclaiming the primacy of the subconscious and the senses in forming truths then mistaken by many as objective (formal logic, classical physics, etc).
But like any successful prophet, Nietzsche's writings have something for everyone, with consistency as a first casualty. Appreciating his works requires the ability to tolerate his cruelty, misogyny, racism, etc etc. Understandably many cannot, but that is a loss. When he was not utterly wrong, he was brilliant.
