Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
4.0
I was super stoked when my work book club decided to read “Lessons in Chemistry”. At the time I was trying to get it from my local library, but the hold list was a mile long! A co-worker suggested I listen to it instead and I’m glad I did!
This sassy, takes no mess, intelligent and beautiful Elizabeth Zott is a show stopper in every way. She believed in her ability to be an amazing scientist and wasn’t about to let the fact that she was a woman in the 50s/60s stop her from it!
She found love in more ways than one, but let her research stay at the top of the list. She was disrespected constantly and even assaulted, but she kept pushing!
Six-thirty her furry companion really stole the show for me in this book! You just have to read it!
I don’t want to give too much away but I heard the complaints from scientists and from those who wanted to argue why this was considered historical fiction but hey…I enjoyed it!

The Gift by Freida McFadden
2.0
Just Ok
This book was short but it wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. If your looking for a super short read to pass some time, “The Gift” could possibly do it for you. Just wasn’t ver thrilling to me.

Dear Vicky by Octavia Grant
4.0
Y’all…..Have you ever read a book that snatched your soul by page 3??? Dear Vicky did exactly that! This 67 page psychotic thriller wouldn’t let me put it down! This book gave delulu energy right away.
Andrew, the part time community college student and full time grocery store sacker, truly believes in love at first sight. When the gorgeous Vicky walks into his grocery store, he takes notice. When his friend and coworker Sasha notices how smitten he is with the customer, she pokes fun. When Vicky comes to his line, she says a couple words to him and right then he knew, she was all he wanted. Will Andrew and Vicky live happily ever after or will this whole first meeting take a wrong turn?
Now I am not about to go any further because I do not want to give away anything in this short book. You just have to read it. And when you do, please come discuss it with me! You will be on the edge of your seat the entire time!!

Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica
4.0
Thriller time!!! Mary Kubica is one of my fave thriller writers because she comes through with the OMG vibes and Just the Nicest Couple doesn’t disappoint!
Lily and Christian Scott are acquaintances with Nina and Jake Hayes. Lily and Nina are both teachers at a local school and that’s how the friendship was formed. One day Christian comes home from work to find Lily acting strange and paranoid. She ends up telling Christian that she ran into Jake at a park and something happened.
Nina is at home wondering where her husband is. He hasn’t returned from the hospital where he works as a surgeon since they had a fight the night before. She’s been spending most of her free time with her mother who is ill and always needs assistance and therefore neglecting Jake and his needs. Did he up and leave her?
Lily can’t remember what happened in the park, but she remembers hitting Jake with a rock after he attacked her and Christian is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his pregnant wife safe and to keep her out of jail. Nina is freaking out not knowing where Jake is, but when the police finds his car, she’s terrified. She starts noticing weird things at home and The Scott’s are acting weird too. Is there foul play in her husband’s disappearance? Did their friends The Scott’s have anything to do with it?
Expect all kinds of twists and turns in this one. While I did figure out a couple of twists early, I was not prepared for this ending!

Only for the Week by Natasha Bishop
5.0
When I say I could not put this book down? I meant it. 3 hours straight I was flipping pages of this book without a pause or a break. I needed to finish no matter that it was 1am on a Tuesday morning when I had to wake up at 6am! Natasha Bishop stuck her foot in this when I was bored and stuck on page 60 of another book for 3 days! There’s not much this book doesn’t have. Exes. Forbidden love. Black excellence. Tulum. Family issues.
Janella Cross aka Nelly aka Nelle is preparing for a 2 week trip to Tulum for her sister’s wedding. People are checking on her and making sure she’s ok because she knows the groom very well…he’s HER ex! Yes that is correct. Her sister Amerie is now marrying her ex. But that doesn’t bother Janelle at all because she knows that Arnold just wasn’t the man for her. Janelle is ready for some fun in the sun and some relaxation with her sister and her 2 best friends. What Janelle wasn’t expecting to do on this trip was fall into the arms, and the bed, of a man.
Rome Martin is Arnold’s best friend and best man. An accomplished video game designer and wealthy man. Rome has always had eyes for Janelle even when she was with Arnold so he always kept his distance out of respect but he wasn’t about to let a chance get away from him with the gorgeous backdrop of Tulum and the beautiful Janelle. The two end up sneaking around but they said it was only for the week. Could they abide by that rule? Would they get caught?
There was so much drama and spice packed into this book along with a lot of laughs and just vocabulary and a tone that is me. And don’t get me started on the fire playlist Natasha added to the beginning of the book. I also loved how Natasha made this main character a reader like us and used vocabulary us readers and bookstagram know. Don’t walk but RUN to your local library, bookstore, Kindle or wherever you get your books and swoop this one up ASAP!!

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
5.0
I kind of feel spoiled because I read “Part of Your World” and “Yours Truly” in the last two months and to be blessed with this arc right now was just amazing! If you have read my reviews on Abby Jimenez books, you know that I’m obsessed and “Just for the Summer” just put me into a new level of obsession. Like my Beyoncé level obsession almost
