After America and Maxon get married and the king and queen die, they become the monarchs of the country. They make a lot of changes, including the elimination of the caste system. They have four children. This book is narrated by the only daughter of the marriage, the future queen of Illéa. The elimination of the castes doesn’t sit well with many people so they start protests. To distract the public, Eadlyn is forced to have the first female-driven Selection. Eadlyn is an independent and brave woman who hadn’t even considered the option of having a Selection. She agrees to do the Selection in order to distract the public from the caste issue, but she has a plan for the Selection itself.
