With the Fire on High was a sweet book. The story has low stake, we literally just follow Emoni on her day-to-day life. I’m not the public for this story, but I know this story is important for teens. Whether you’re a teen mom struggling to reconciliate growing up and having a child of your own, or a teen a bit lost on your journey, I feel like you can see a bit of yourself in Emoni. You should definitely check it out if you’re in need of a cute short story with a character finding the confidence to ask for what she wants. Emoni is an attaching character, you always end up rooting for her and wishing she’d get what she wants. One of my regrets is that the magic side of her culinary talent is not pushed enough.

I am not a big sci-fi reader, but this book was so good. The characters are well fleshed out. They aren’t one sided, we can see them evolve as the story goes. But it’s not at the detriment of the story. It’s full of adventures and mysteries. I loved the little snippets of mythologies and thoughts at the end of each chapter. It really helped understand the story and understand some revelations. On the other hand, it felt like some points might not be pushed enough. Like a bit more details here and there would have been perfect. But I think it might be what make the book so easy to read if you want to start reading sci-fi. I can’t wait to read the next adventure of Obi and Asha.

First, this is the second book of R.F. Kuang I attempted to read. The first one being Yellowface. And as much as I love her stories, I struggle so much with her writing style. I don’t know what it is about it, I just struggle to read her books. I had to stop reading Yellowface. But I forced myself to finish Babel because I wanted to know what happened next.
Now for the positive part, I loved the story. It touches to so many subjects, it was very interesting. Also, some stuff about the translation were genius.
Like, Victoire name? I won’t say much about it, because it concerns the ending, but I gasped at my book when I realised.
It’s a three star read for me. I would recommend the book to people who like long descriptions and slow pace because there were, definitely, moments that were very slow. And again, the story is really good and I’m glad I finished it.

I heard mixed reviews about this book. And I some spoilers made me think I wasn’t going to like the story. But I actually enjoyed it. It is the first book I read from Olivie Blake, and I like the way she writes. She got a way to make you enthralled by the story. I was so glad to have a full day in train to read this book, because I would not have been able to put it down otherwise. Here is where I agree with the reviews though, the plot twists might happen a bit late, and the characters seems to accept the plot twist pretty fast. I hope we are going to hear more about it in the next book. I ended this book with a lot of questions and theories about the next book, and I think that is what a book series should do; make you want the next one. Overall, I liked the characters, or no… I liked the way they were not ‘flat’. They had flaws, and thoughts and personalities. And I cannot wait to read the next book to meet them again.

I liked this story, even though it was a bit slow at first, but I feel like it follows the structure of tales. And I enjoyed trying to resolve the mysteries with Greta. Sure, some were easy enough to understand but it was still entertaining. I felt like the main characters were complex and evolved with the story.
