another unfortunate victim of the "book recommended to me by a tiktok that pitched it as something completely different from what it actually is which causes me to not like it as much because it's just so not what i was expecting" curse, though thankfully not the most egregious example bc i did still enjoy the book! dark academia it was not, but it did have some interesting musings on gender and a neat take on vampires that i haven't really seen anything similar to before, also probably serving as a metaphor for several things, most of which probably went over my head. also the first book i've ever read that revolves around fanfic/fandom in such a prominent and  genuinely sincere way, which was also quite neat to me! hearing ao3 get mentioned in a real published work nearly made me do a spit take but i still had fun :]

picked this up after watching the movie and wondering what the original comic was like, and while i think i do like the movie a fair bit more this was still a fun little read- ballister and ambrosius being even messier exes here than they are in the movie was real fun in particular lol

all i can really say about this book is that it's definitely the kind of story you'd expect to see from the guy that wrote no children! i wasn't expecting it to be Like That going into it and i wasn't really prepared for all that but it's a great read if you want to feel sad and have a slight existential crisis ๐Ÿ‘

normally i quite enjoy grizzled sarcastic messy bitch detectives like harry dresden, but good LORD is this man constantly in need of a cold shower, it feels like for at least half the book every time a female character is in the scene he's using like,, the horniest descriptors he can use in a non-erotica novel, i nearly tapped out during his visit to that vampire woman's house because this guy is just TOO down bad. thankfully that stuff kinda slows down near the halfway point- at least it seemed like it did, maybe i was just getting used to it- and it wasn't as annoying to finish as i was afraid it would be. i'll check out the second book because i'm juuuuust interested enough in the setting to see where this could go, but GOD do i hope dresden starts being less of a horndog because i don't know if i can handle looking through his Womanizer Goggles for another book lmfao

honestly, i nearly DNF'd this one, chalking it up to just not liking sci-fi that, but i'm glad i didn't-- it takes til like the middle off the book for things to really pick up, but i pretty consistently enjoyed it after that point

read all of this in one sitting- fun little read with a great concept and characters, do kind of wish it wasn't a novella so the story could have been a little more fleshed out, but other than that it was a good time ๐Ÿ‘

somehow i accidentally read another book about traumatized women in a relationship with each other that steadily gets worse and worse as the book goes on?? not a very feel-good read at all but provides an interesting premise that i haven't seen before and thankfully didn't drag things out too much

was super interested in this series after reading most of the artemis fowl books in 6th grade, i am now a high school graduate and only just now got around to reading this bad boy. fun little YA romp, full of spellcasters using cheesy aliases and irish-isms that took me a second to understand, really grew on me the further in i got. i didn't like stephanie a lot but like,, she's a rude little shit 12 year old, i can't act like it's unrealistic yknow? all in all probably would have been a little better to me were i still a 6th grader but still a worthwhile read, i'll probably keep reading this series once i've worked through more of my backlog

the sort of detatched, surreal style this book is in lends itself greatly to the story, i do think it dragged a little at points and i guessed what i'm assuming was supposed to be a pretty big twist very early on in the book but honestly i didn't dislike it, very much worth a read for enjoyers of slow-paced spooky shit
