Great antihero, did not 100% enjoy the writing but it’s all detailed and exact. The pacing is also just perfect, with reveals that you don’t see coming that I was shocked with that gasp I let out during one chapter.

Only just now found out that there’s an audiobook that I wish I had listened to while reading D:

My biggest mistake was reading the last few chapters of this while eating dinner. Whatever possessed me to have done that knowing what was to come, fuck you.

I have nothing and everything to say about this book. Took me three months to finish it, partly because the things laid out in this book were absolutely horrifying, and partly because I lost interest halfway specifically because of how horrifying it was-- if that even makes sense.

So explicitly violent, gory and macabre that I don't know what else to say. This is definitely not for the faint of heart, and there's so many content warnings that you should look into before reading. There were times I got confused because of sudden switches in the pov, but the writing was beautiful.

I want to say I'm glad that I can finally mark this as read, but at what cost?

An academic enemies-to-lovers fruit basket kind of version of Booksmart, and also my first book in months! Happy pride! I must say that I found myself more engaged and interested only when I was already at the last few chapters of this book but this was cute. And I’m no Chloe but I would also very much like to have a Shara Wheeler to kiss atm.

I would like to give a big thanks to Julia Whelan, if it weren’t for her I wouldn’t have finished this book. Shelved this several months ago because I found it boring, and then hated it because it got me in a slump. I still find the characters and plot boring, but I’m glad I can finally put this book to rest. Gonna forget Addie fr fr

I finally understand why I felt annoyed reading this, but the writing and the narration of the book were great and the film version looks interesting. Time for some 🍿 ig

Read along with the audiobook and the whole experience felt cinematic. Like I was watching Lovecraft Country, but with images of monsters more horrifying to think about and definitely a lot darker with its historical fantasy elements.

Teared up on a few scenes, and fell in love with most of the characters. For a novella, this packed a punch.
