Holy shit! This book was a RIDE. Super cool magic system and excellent narrative. VERY unsubtle with its themes, VERY on the nose, but thats not necessarily a bad thing if the author truly wanted to make a point. It was incredibly hard to put down I basically read this in two sittings. The end made me sad but also was the only possible compromise for the story to still remain somewhat believable. I definitely enjoyed this and am curious to see what else the author has written.

The really good chapters about feminism, relationships and the patriarchy are really good and insightful. However she lost me at the religious ones, especially in the last one when she starts going on about the angels and the spirits

What the fuck was that ending! No disrespected to Charlotte Bronte because she writes beautifully, but i I really did not vibe with this book. The main character is a door mat who has almost 0 agency in most things she does and just lets things happen to her. I enjoyed the little bits of sass and spirit we got to see of her but they were few and far between. I felt the story tried to be too many things at once, with long exposition on religion and the supposed qualities of people I frankly do not give 2 shits about and who also didnt care for Lucy despite being her supposed "friends". It was way too long and after all that there was basically no point to any of it because she ends up exactly where she started (sad, alone and friendless, just better off financially lol). What a depressing outlook on life jesus. Definitely sticking to my Jane Eyre favoritism at least she had a backbone

Probably a personal taste thing, but I didn't enjoy most of these poems and I felt there was little variety of poets, with most of the pieces being by the same 4 or 5 authors
