One thing about a sports romance is that they regurgitate the same three storylines... and I will eat it up every single time.
Everything about this book was fantastic. (Except the cover, I hate it)

Bro is dumb as fuck, there's so many grammatical errors, it's not that well written, and I wasted too much of my time.

I have no idea what the fuck I just read but slay. I went into this blind not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised to say the least. I enjoyed the read nonetheless.
N.B. please read the trigger warnings 💀
Some of my favourite excerpts. Literally poetry.

'How he is the villain to everyone else, but not a single man depicted as a hero had asked for permission?'
'- I wipe tears with my thumb that don’t need to fall for me. Knowing one day she’ll look back and see that those were wasted on a boy who didn’t deserve them'
'They took what happened, a tragedy that lived inside my veins like poison, and made it worse. They took a boy who already hated himself and made him hate the world.'
I loved Rook and I loved his dynamic with Sage, though I wish we saw more of their relationship without the weird crazy cult shit happening.

Farnsworth is one of those authors that no matter what they put out, I will be reading, but this fell short I fear.
I loved loved loved the premise of the plot and I was so excited when I first heard about it, but it was lackluster to say the least. It was too short. There should've been more.
More scenes with them dating in college, one of her realizing he left, of him visiting her when he found out about their son (that entire screen was confusing for absolutely no reason at all), of him bonding with his son, more of her and his mother bonding, of Lyla and Leo learning Russian, more conflict with his cousin (that all ended to quickly). We should have gotten a scene or two with Nick's mother, Lyla and their daughter when she was born, especially since we learned that she was disappointed in not having a girl to coddle in her difficult marraige.
Leo's character should have been more carefully thought out. Don't get me wrong I liked him, but he felt very one dimensional. You're telling me this kid has never grown up around violence or seen it but was nonchalant about gunshots, guns, being kidnapped TWICE and seeing someone get killed. I get that he was written that way so readers and characters clearly saw the resemblance between him and his dad beyond physicalities but come on.

So I found this on booktok and went into it not expecting much but it's not bad at all, all things considered. I was expecting worse. Plot is good, characters are funny, writing is amazing. Although I did feel like there was an issue with initial pacing of their relationship (this is subjective and just MY thoughts).
It started off as insta attraction/ lust which I HATE, then I read that apparently they'd known each other for a couple weeks (3 to 4) even though we'd hardly seen them interact or talk. There were maybe 3-5 interactions that lasted more than a couple pages now all of a sudden there's touching, jealousy, horniness, oral and makeouts. The tension and subtle flirting were there but I feel like it all fell flat- to me at least- but maybe I'm nit-picking idk.
Now onto the conflict.....
I felt like I was being edged, except I was laying there bored, like a starfish, dryer than Sahara herself, getting carpet burns from excessive chafing.
It took just about 80% of the book to get to the conflict that we were so clearly expecting and waiting for but anticipation turned into boredom which turned into lack of intrest which turned into exasperation when it ended in 0.2 seconds.
It very much gave 'I know I need to write something to make everything exciting so I hope you appreciate all the foreshadowing and build up that I worked so hard on. But actually nevermind, it's too much work and I'm lazy so here damn just take this.'
It was so anticlimactic. It was boring. I'm boreddd. Even the smut was boring. I have three chapters left but this feels like a chore.

So you know when people say "Don't judge a book by its cover"... seriously, don't do it.
I AM A VICTIM. I saw the pretty cover and was like y'know what, a bully romance sounds semi interesting today. Well.... no
I could go into all the fucked up things that was this book but I won't because I didn't read the trigger warnings so that's an oversight on my part.
HOWEVER, that doesn't change the fact that this book was hot ass. I wont lie and say that the plot wasn't interesting, because it was. There was potential there. It could have been even more if it wasn't written like a taboo wattpad romance in 2016 by a 14 year old girl who just now learnt about the sex.
The dialogue was a cringe fest, and the brothers........ have to laugh. It literally gave those middle school comebacks like "You call me a bitch? Well a bitch is a female dog, dogs bark, bark is on trees, trees are part of nature and nature is beautiful!" 🤓
Like pleaseeee be serious. It's 2024. Put your pen down. I beg.
The main character was likeable I will admit, her dialogue had a lot less cringe to it and I actually enjoyed her personality. But the forced edgyness and "fucked up" childhood which affected her mental health was poorly written like everything else, and felt one dimensional.
Oh my god. I lied. I will get into one of the fucked up things in this book.So how is it that you were kidnapped and tortured naked as a child (it fucked you up mentally and now you have trouble sleeping) good, that's understandable. But WHY is it your first choice to continuously sexually assult someone because they stand up to you and dont take you seriously. My brother in christ.
Overall- ★★ I need therapy

Ok but what in the holy hell did I just read. I've never felt this satisfied since I finished the Gods and Monsters series by Amber Nicole.
And that twist at the end.... can't say I saw that coming. I made so many theories with the info I thought I had that what I just read was unfathomable to me. I'm obsessed and I need more but I fear I need break for my mental health.
I literally don't know what else to say other than some of my favourite quotes from the book.

"Your body is just the packaging that gives the other half of my soul a home. I have failed as your mate if you do not already know that"
“I didn’t just fuck a Faerie,” I said, shrugging my shoulders. "I fucked a God. Remember that, the next time you think to trick yourself into believing that it was any kind of life, lying in bed with your legs spread for the flaccid flesh of the husband they chose for you." - GAG HER MAMA
“I have felt your desperation coming through the bond all day, Little One. If my death is what brings you peace, then I will pay that price.” - MY HEARTTTTTT
“If you are able to imagine your life, your future, without me in this world, then why would I want to live?" -STOPPPPPPP THAT SOUND YOU HEAR IS THW SOUND OF MY HEART BREAKING
"Do try to remember that only one death separates you from taking orders from me.” - motherrrrr
Estrella was mothering this entire book. She was everything and moreeee. Literally gave me Dianna Martinez vibes and I'm here for it. She was gagging butches left, right and center.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I literally have no other words. One thing I will say is that the plot was painstakingly obvious but the execution was amazing. No complaints at all.
He leveled a look that did nothing to ease her distrust, something in his eyes twinkling knowingly.
He was far enough away that it was impossible he’d heard her.
Right.
