LIT STUDY CHAPTER BOOK (whole class read)- Ed 230

I believe this classic should be used as a read aloud forever in the classroom. It is an extremely well thought out method to introduce the ideas of tolerance and acceptance to children. These are important concepts to introduce to our students at a young age, especially since for the duration of their lives they will be working, and interacting, with people who have many differences in appearance, personality, and core beliefs. It is important to stress to students that it is alright to be different, and that it is vital to treat others with love and acceptance.

LIT STUDY CHAPTER BOOK (whole class read)- Ed 230

While this is an extremely controversial book, with many opinions involved, I believe that The Seventh Wish would be a beneficial read aloud in an upper elementary classroom. Yes, the book does involve some mature concepts, but I believe that a great way for students to learn about these issues is in a classroom setting. Kate Messner chose a difficult topic, but is necessary and she developed it in a sensitive matter that is appropriate for mature elementary students. Another beneficial aspect about this novel is that it reaches out to students who may be dealing with similar things in their home lives, it can be used therapeutically.
