This book is well written. If you’re looking for something more art house, philosophical, and disjointed than typical storytelling then you will likely love it.
I, personally, felt like I was stoned out of my mind the whole time I read it, though. There’s a lot of one character philosophizing at another in conversations where neither side of the conversation is particularly coherent. The story pacing was good and it kept me wanting to finish it, but I couldn’t have tolerated it being any longer than it was.
It just isn’t my cup of tea. I mean, it’s probably fantastic tea if you’re interested in that flavor. But I, apparently, am not.
It gets 3 stars from me because the writing is skilled, the plot is interesting and well done, most of the characters are interesting when I understand them. I can’t argue that it is well written.
But I won’t read again and am unlikely to recommend it as it was more confounding than enjoyable for me. And there’s something about that level of philosophizing in fiction that I find a bit pretentious.

This book was beautiful. The author describes herself as a scientist and a poet and her writing style reflects that perfectly.
It contains a wealth of information- both modern science and traditional indigenous- and blends the two wonderfully.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that there was a degree of repetitiveness that I found frustrating. I think the book would be best read one chapter at a time, with a day or two between each to reflect. Then the repetition wouldn’t feel so overwhelming.
Alas, my copy was a library book due back very soon so I didn’t have that luxury of time.
Not one I’m likely to reread but definitely one I think many people should read.

The Sandman: Overture: The Deluxe Edition by Neil Gaiman

Quite possibly the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Worth reading the physical copy to better appreciate the full page spread.
Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History by Bill Schutt

Really well researched and written, and avoids the over sensationalized topic of criminal cannibalism. I really enjoyed that it didn’t focus on the aspects of cannibalism that we’ve all heard over and over again. Much more info on cannibalism amongst non humans, and a great in depth look at the mad cow disease epidemic.
Easily digestible (no pun intended) and I read it in a few days so obviously enjoyable enough to keep me glued to the page.
Would probably read again some day and definitely recommend it.
