Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
4.0
Wholesome and written with a narrative voice that is refreshing to read. A bit predictable, but a lovely read nonetheless. Strongly recommend.
The Librarian of Souls by Ash Raven
3.0
The initial plot is very rushed and really a bit unrealistic, but I’m willing to overlook those elements for the fact the characters have a bit of depth and wide representation to them despite it being a shorter book. The nature of the heroine being plus sized seemed needlessly overstressed at times, but I appreciate the use of pronouns and focus on all types of love throughout. I appreciate a book that represents all people (and creatures). If there is a sequel or retelling or another pov, I’m in. Send me a preorder link.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
4.0
Solidly good beginning for a trilogy. There’s some questionable actions, nice tension, and decent character building. I will say I’m not fond of many of them given their complexities and limited single pov, but I’m excited to see how they develop in the next two books and see how the storyline ends.
The Wicked King by Holly Black
4.0
Significantly better than the first! I found myself hating most characters in the first book, and while it’s still true in the second, the tension, the twists, and the character development is glorious and well timed.
The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

Solidly entertaining ending to a good trilogy. The characters that seemed completely despicable and inhuman became loved and understood. Black has a seriously good way of writing characterization arcs. A bit sappy and dramatic at times, but nonetheless am I happy to read and own this particular series.
What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L. Woods
3.0
It was a bit predictable, but the world building was nice. I will finish the rest of the series because I’m stubborn, but I’m hoping it all becomes less predictable and the writing tropes improve.
