Promise Boys by Nick Brooks

This was fantastic storytelling. I loved all of the different pov’s centered around piecing together the mystery behind Principal Moore’s murder. I also recommend listening to the audiobook if you can as it’s read by a full cast and was absolutely excellent👏🏽👏🏽

This book was so satisfying. Getting to see the growth within Voya, her family, and role as a matriarch in her community was everything 😭😭😭 Again, Liselle Sambury is not shying away from any topics or family dynamics. This was an easy 5 star read for me.

4.5 ⭐️’s The writing in this book is everythinggg! Rachel’s story had me tearing up at every new corner she searched and question she asked. Her seeking her children across the Caribbean was such a journey while also sharing insight into the Caribbean after the ending of slavery. I’m really looking forward to seeing what story comes next from Miss Shearer because she did her thing with this debut! 👏🏽

Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? by Crystal Smith Paul

Miss Kitty Karr was a true icon. I enjoyed the dual pov and how there were clues sprinkled throughout that all lead to something. This book explored passing in a way I haven’t seen done before. I would have loved a lil copy of that ledger to keep track of all the folks, but it seems maybe that was the point… this life of never truly revealing yourself is a hard one to keep up with.
