Oni's Tears: A Steamfunk Adventure by Kai Leakes

Magic. Time travel. Demons, ghosts, zombies and vamps. Oh my! Oni’s Tears has it all. This story was fast paced and full of adventure. It even had a bit of steampunk in the theme. Kai Leakes doesn’t disappoint with her colorful play on words. It’s like watching an action movie as her words jump off the page and come to life. I could see the electricity shoot from palms and feel the wetness of the rain as it drenched the characters. Although I would have loved to read more about Fanta, our time with her ended abruptly and sort of put a damper on the flow of the story. However, things pick up again once we meet Oni and her father. I’d better stop talking before I start dropping spoilers. This novella was a short but exciting reading. I give this book four-pages (think four-stars). I knocked a star off because of some minor editing issues. However, Nikki-Michelle recommends this book.

This was an okay read.

This was an okay read. There were a few, minor editing issues. The only problem I had was that everyone seemed a bit immature, minus Travis. At times it was hard for me to believe Cheyenne, Taylor, and Leslie were twenty-nine- years-old. They behaved like they were fresh out of high school and on their way to college. Maybe that's why this read like a YA novel at times. Cheyenne did so much cackling, hollering, and laughing that it got a bit redundant and annoying at times. Even the elder folk in the book came off immature.

However, Travis was very mature and my most liked character. He had so much depth and charisma. His character was written well. The author managed to make him stand out anytime his POV was given in the book. I loved how the author had him disclose and discuss his depression in the book. I could write a love song about him. He was easily my favorite character.

Overall I think this was a quick enjoyable read. Nikki-Michelle recommends this book.

Short, sweet, and ended way too soon

I liked the novella. However, I did feel Safe and One were a bit hypocritical. How were they judging their friends for getting married after what they'd done in Vegas? Lol

A few minor editing issues, but still a good short read.

An unexpected surprise

Wow! This book was everything. A YA romance (black love y'all) that tugged at every heartstring I own. This was an amazing story to witness unfold. Zora and Deuce made me wish I could walk in their shoes and experience a love untainted. Read this book!

Very good read.

I liked the pace of this story. It started a bit slow bit picked up rather quickly. The author kept me on my toes. I didn't know who'd done until I knew who'd done it. The ending was kind of tame, but it still went out with a bang. I hope there are more books in this series.

This book held my interest.

This was a good read/listen. The suspense was up to par. The narrator was great, and the storyline was easy to follow. My only issue was with the fact that I kind of figured out what was what and who was who before the big climax.

Good but choppy

This story was a bit choppy. It jumped around in a way that makes the story seem out of order. The story line wasn't that well thought out, and seemed to lead the reader by the nose. I'm curious as to what part 2 in the series will be about.

What the...?

I wanted to like this book. I did, but I'm highly disappointed. The author took us through all those pages just to give us...that? This was supposed to be mystery and suspense, right? And in some ways, it was right up until that snow storm. I lost all interest in the book once we found out whodunit. What a waste of valuable reading and listening time.

Wow! Now that was a twist!

I truly didn't see that coming, although I should have. In hindsight, the author laid the clue right there in front of us, but her red herrings were too good to pay attention to the answer right in our faces. Lol. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but it sure as heck picked up toward the middle and end. Also, the victim's dad was trash.
