felt kind of surface level detail because she covered so much in one book - basically a chapter for each country. different to dervla murphy’s book which focused on Persia, Afghanistan and Pakistan rather than the trip as a while.  liked the theme of a historical time period per country/region. has dated a little with the naming of places/people. some funny moments, and overall an interesting look back at what travelling the globe by bike was at that time.

finished this on a beach in tenerife. an relatively easy read, enjoyed the exploration of characters. noteworthy that so many experiences are similar - rising prices/cost of living, workers rights, independence etc. similar to ‘how green was my valley’ in the welsh literature focusing on people’s lives.
