Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar

i am loosely paraphrasing my take on the meaning of this book.
“If the great sin of suicide is selfishness, keeping peace for yourself while passing your inner turmoil onto those who remain / then the sin of martyrdom must be pride-the arrogance to think your death is more significant than your life, or even that your death could matter more than death itself, which, being inevitable, holds no real meaning. It’s finding meaning in something meaningless. No one considers the present as the past of the future. i want to be deserving of the fear my existence brings.”
there are some good deep cuts, pop culture wise and emotional deep cuts what have you.
p.s. Go Hawkeyes - kaveh akbar

i came across it and out of curiosity i had read vol. 1 and the subtle detail in his writing made it boring as he’d just ramble on.
he was an prick who was too smart for his own good and thinking his own ideals so clever that it ended up in negative consequences for millions, even himself. it makes me think, that with power, its Scary how dangerous intelligent people can be and that they are also unpredictable.
other than that it was an ugly read but interesting if you’re a history buff i guess.
