// "My history gets in the way of your memory"
adored this one. 'the country without a post office', 'city of daughters' and 'ghazal' were my favourite pieces.

a sad story with a heart that has strands of magical realism running through it, all rendered in beautiful and immersive art that appropriately takes up the challenge of depicting the tale that tillie walden sought to narrate
a certain hunger is deliciously dark, sensual, and murderous, with a dash of decadent instability and garnished with cannibalistic desires.
guided by a narrator who relishes power, influence, and the ability to induce shock, the novel lets us into the perspective of a psychopathic food writer who is of questionable morals and who has no qualms about pursuing pleasure, whether it be in the form of food or sex. she accordingly utilises well-crafted culinary metaphors and delights in giving erotic descriptions of the food she consumes. for her, cannibalism is nothing but merely an extension of her pursuit of sophisticated cuisine and fine dining. the author reportedly took at least eight years for a certain hunger to come to fruition, and it is evident in the stunning rendering of this novel, whether it be in the writing, in the well-fleshed out character of our protagonist and her progressively manipulative scheming, and her vivid descriptions of even the simplest of foods.
would recommend it if you're looking for a book to read about women in STEM (Slitting Throats, Evisceration, and Murder)

// "m. loyal: may heaven bless you all!
orgon: may it curse you and the one who sent you!"
a rather wonderful and humorous satirical play on religious fanaticism and the lengths that religion can be used to cause consequences for the innocent

one of my favourites. there are so many quotes that i would put here, but i am going to create a plot twist and put this one in instead:
// "'He is still depressed,' Razumihin went on. 'We've just changed his linen and he almost cried.'"
(i, too, would cry if someone changed me linen for me)
