3.5☆ — a gorgeously rendered love letter to the colour blue, in thoughtful and lyrical prose. i was initially afraid that this would begin to sound repulsively pretentious but i am glad to report that i did not find it to be that way. would definitely be a treat for blue lovers everywhere
3.5☆ — a little confused about how to articulate my thoughts about this one, but what i can say is that i certainly loved the writing and the idea/overall themes behind the book, all propelling a fever dream of a story
absolutely in love with james baldwin's writing and how he just manages to use words so effectively to capture the height of emotions in all its rawness and complexities
5☆ — brilliant collection of writings that gives a concise overview of different schools of feminism, their central concepts and critiques. would recommend for anyone looking for a brief introduction to feminist theory.
3☆ — if this hadn't been the sequel to a novel centered around a character who i had come to love so much, i may have been able to rate it better; but as things stand i was slightly disappointed with many aspects of it and now i want to go back to the idiot so that i can forget about the fact that it's sequel wasn't the 5-starrer that i was hoping it to be, that i was ready for it to be.
// '“Although she is quiet and modest, undemanding, there is an immense demand lying there unconsciously”: why was that line so exciting, and so troubling?'

2.5☆ — the premise was captivating enough but i wouldn't say that it was good enough for me to ignore a few instances within the writing that marred the overall experience for me. i also think the plot would've enjoyed a greater impact had it been properly reduced to the length of a novella. an intriguing piece of work nevertheless with themes of religious trauma, abuse, and bullying !
"i wanted to do every destructive thing that i could think of at that time to hurt anyone that had hurt us through the years."
a wonderful compilation of interviews, speeches, and essays that could serve as a brief introduction into the kind of politics and background that the stonewall riots were based on, with inputs from both sylvia rivera and marsha p. johnson.

4.5☆ — this lesbian vampire tale may be my new hyper fixation; i adored the writing and i found myself compulsively thinking about the book as a whole with much satisfaction even after i was done with it. it is short enough as to not drag along things but also long enough that it has its desired impact; i had some issues with how the conflict was resolved but overall loved it !
4☆ — very impressed by this debut by the writer who is a gay somali man, rendered in beautiful prose that is characterised by a haunting sadness and unflinching anger. there is an ache that we as the reader can feel radiating from the pages, as the writer tells us of his experience growing up gay, black, and muslim under an abusive environment and grappling with addiction. a heavily underrated memoir that i would definitely recommend. add this to your shelves now !
3.5☆ — collection of short stories that are mostly centered around the relationships that are formed between individuals, how it affects us and how we in turn affect the relationship, all told through a narrative with occasional surrealist tendencies. most of the stories were threaded through with the theme of heartbreak, although another feature that could be detected was tenderness- how it comes from the most unexpected of persons and at the most unexpected of times. some moments and some stories had a proper grip on me, but others i didn't care for as much, although i do still think it formed an interesting read overall
