πΉThe story takes place on August 27, 1983, illuminating flashbacks of family courtships, weddings, births, and deaths scattered throughout. Four Malibu surfer siblings host a wild party that leads them to confront their pasts.
πΉThe Rivaβs didnβt have a simple childhood. Their father was a famous singer who was absent, and a true asshole I couldnβt relate to him at all, and their mother was an alcoholic, leaving all the responsibilities to Nina, their oldest.
πΉI've seen a lot of reviews on this book but I don't know why no one mentioned that the Riva family (siblings to be exact ) is extremely wonderful to read about they have bonded strongly, their relationship is fascinating, heartwarming and so refreshing!
πΉOne particular night will put all of their relationships to the test. Everything will blow out. Nothing can last forever, Down below, the tide will roll in, then roll out and Malibu will keep catching fire!
πΉThe Rivaβs will discover various secrets by the end of this book and we leave the party knowing that we donβt have to worry about them! But I genuinely love to read more about what the future has in store for each one of them, it can have a sequel in my opinion.
πΉOh and I almost forgot, the most amazing thing about this book is that Reid cross-references her two books: the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & the Six ( without spoiling). it's always pleasant to see characters from literature still exist in the same world.

πΈI posted a video on TikTok yesterday saying that I was ready to get hurt again but Hell No I wasnβt ready for all of this colleen!!
πΈI found that I couldnβt read with the tension building up inside of me without stopping briefly to take it all in or speeding through the pages to find out what would happen next.
πΈI felt exhausted and drained yet content after finishing this book, I broke for Morgan, cried for Clara, sobbed for Jonah, and fell for Miller, it was too many emotions!! I know I'm just rambling but I'm dumbfounded and I need to take a break from Colleen.
πΈAt first, I found myself getting whiplash from the trauma and horror that she was putting her characters through, but then I realized that this is exactly how trauma manifests in real life. We neither anticipate nor foresee it.
πΈThis book has it all, Yong love, family bond, Friendships, betrayals, and second chances.
πΈ The plot centers on a family drama where Morgan, Chris, Jenny, and Jonah have developed tight bonds over the years. Clara is the product of teen pregnancy from Chris and Morgan.
Two perspectives are used in the writing, after a significant life-changing event, Morgan and her 16 yo daughter Claraβs points of view are examined.
πΈIts a must-read!π₯
